Waterstons host a Virtual and Augmented Reality working group where like-minded people from the AEC sector get together, share their ideas, challenges and thoughts on this emerging technology.
Northumbria University have kindly offered to host the next session, with Dr James Charlton, Senior Lecturer in Architecture and Built Environment demonstrating their ‘Virtual NewcastleGateshead’ (VGN) model.
VNG is a joint venture between Northumbria University, Newcastle City Council and Gateshead Council to create a three-dimensional digital model of the urban core areas of both Newcastle and Gateshead. The model offers a unique opportunity by providing developers and architects with the means to accurately assess the impact of design proposals within their urban context. Current research is looking at the interoperability of VNG to visualise and represent different urban datasets, and align the model with smart city agendas.
The second half of the session will consist of a workshop, which will deep-dive into the challenges and blockers around AR and VR technology and its use in modern practices.
