Ryder Architecture are leading an international team to design a blueprint for city dwelling combined with urban farming and sustainable development.

Starting in Belgium, the emerging vision places wellbeing at the heart of the project and Ryder, who have a heritage of driving innovation, are shaping the solution through research and technology based design married with best practice in sustainable and environmental architecture.  The partners include top European universities of technology and commercial experts as well as local design team experts who all form part of the steering group.

Working alongside the visionary client, H3 Buildings, provides a platform for realising a shared vision, where in collaboration with like minded partners, we have the ability to develop a truly innovative and inspirational environment to live, work and play.  This approach will seek to connect with local businesses, artisans and communities to deliver new developments which prioritise the health and wellbeing of residents, staff and visitors from the local community and further afield.  Included in the programme is a new university campus, an urban farming centre, a drone aircraft terminal along with residential buildings, hotel, offices, restaurants and local retail and leisure facilities.

Andrew Costa, partner leading the programme at Ryder said, “When we consider that two thirds of the world’s population will soon be city dwellers, we need forward thinking solutions to not only grow food in our cities but to also provide them with the cleanest air and most uplifting environments as possible for human wellbeing.”

New technology will positively impact day to day living and activity within the development through the use of smart technology within homes and the workplace and through drone technology which will open up connections with a much wider populous. Through the construction of the living lab space, new technology will be tested, recorded and implemented.  This will ensure a process of constant learning is implemented, positively impacting on the course of future H3 developments worldwide.
