Nomad Digital, world leaders in connectivity for trains, buses, metros and trams, on the move globally, decided to create a unique hackathon event with a ‘smart transport’ theme.

As Nomad work in technology for transport, smart transport was the obvious theme choice. Then Nomad looked back over the innovation history in the North East, the region in which their head office is situated, for some name inspiration.

The Rocket is an iconic part of Britain’s railway heritage, made in Newcastle and a world-changing innovation. Manufactured in 1829 by Robert Stephenson at Newcastle’s Fourth Street Works, The Rocket was the fastest locomotive ever built up to that point.

THE ROCKET HACK WAS BORN

A great fit as this event is all about showcasing the inspiring technology coming from the North East.

Working collaboratively with a clear focus, starting with giving back – a compelling reason for running a hackathon in its own right. Nomad wanted to make it unique, a hackathon with a difference. As well as a traditional prize pot, the event will offer participants the chance (if they want) to take their idea forward, with support from Nomad Digital and partner, NatWest Entrepreneur Accelerator post-event.

WORKING TOGETHER TO PROMOTE THE NORTH EAST

By joining forces with like minded North East businesses, Nomad Digital, Gardiner RichardsonNCFE and NatWest Accelerator are creating a fun and unique event. The aim is to inspire people and showcase the amazing cutting-edge technology coming out of the North East. All of the businesses taking part have the same goals and commitments when it comes to achieving this. Nomad’s vision is aligned with the others involved, and collaborating means Nomad will be stronger in their aim to connect the North East.
