I’m attending a Dynamo North East board meeting at Newcastle College.
Due to work and travel commitments, it’s the first board meeting I could attend for a while. The Dynamo board meeting is very rare blend of around 20 professionals from public sector organisations, professionals from the education sector, business owners, and professionals from many facets of the private sector. As I look around the room, size of business, seniority of role, background and diversity counts for nothing, tonight everyone in the room is an equal. The agenda is packed with lots of interesting topics and I see superb levels of engagement and energy.
Whilst driving home, I couldn’t help but wonder what makes people give up their personal time to attend the meeting on a cold November evening. What is the hidden force has driven some of the board to turn up every month, and give up their personal time for Dynamo board meetings and related activities, for almost five years now?
I’m sure they don’t do it for personal gain (there is no financial reward) or because they have a sense of obligation to others. I believe they do it for themselves, not in a self serving way, they do it because they believe in what Dynamo stands for and what it is trying to do for the North East of England.
They want to see the North East technology sector grow, they want to see the technology sector deliver more prosperity for the region, and they want to create jobs today and for future generations.
