| A SOCIAL evening has been arranged for the growing number of people working in the region’s Fintech sector.
Regional IT network Dynamo North East is behind the free Fintech Friends event, to be held at the Bridge Tavern on Newcastle’s Quayside on Wednesday, August 28, starting at 5.30pm. Dawn Dunn, who leads the work on Dynamo’s Fintech cluster, said: “Fintech Friends will be the perfect opportunity for people working in technology and financial services to get together to share stories and experiences in a relaxed atmosphere. “It’s aimed at everyone from software developers and architects to start-up founders, those working in challenger banks; cyber security experts; block chain boffins; fund managers; private investors and anyone else connected to the broader Fintech ecosystem. “I think this could be the first north east meet-up to have a Fintech focus and, thanks to the generosity of our friends at Honcho Markets, the first drink will be on the house. This is purely social, no set agenda, just come down and have a chat, whether you’re on your own or with friends. We’d love to meet you.” Dawn and Dynamo have also helped with the organisation of a Fintech symposium which has been organised by FinTech North at Sage UK’s head office in Newcastle on Wednesday, September 25. The FinTech North Symposium, which is free to attend, will feature high profile speakers from the UK FinTech sector alongside some of the best-known brands and most innovative start-ups in the region. Hosted by Sage, who is the principal sponsor, the event is expected to attract up to 300 people. Proceedings will be chaired by Chris Sier, HM Treasury FinTech Envoy and Chairman of FinTech North, and will feature speakers from organisations including Sage, Innovate Finance, Atom Bank, Dynamo, Paid, Honcho, TSB, Equiniti, Thoughtworks, Newcastle University, Track My Risks and Whitecap Consulting. Tickets for the conference must be booked in advance. Earlier this year, Dynamo and FinTech North, an organisation working to bring together the fintech community within the Northern Powerhouse area, jointly launched the north east Fintech cluster at an event at Hoults Yard, Newcastle. The meeting was attended by the major regional players in the Fintech sector, and three priority areas were agreed: access to talent; leveraging resources, profile and tech needs, and increasing the volume of early-stage Fintech businesses. Dynamo has more than 150 members made up of IT organisations and employers, technology hubs, universities, colleges and local government. It works to grow the region’s IT economy through promoting the region as a hub for the enterprise IT sector and has a mission to increase collaboration, innovation, skills and ‘noise’ to grow the region’s IT economy.
