About Dr David Dunn

Question 1

What does your day-to-day job outside of Dynamo entail?

As the CEO for Dynamo my job is to ensure Dynamo is adding value to the tech ecosystem in the North East. I view this having two halves: 1) making sure we are making the right decisions, listening to companies and responding to their needs, 2) telling those in power – local and national governments – what policies will best benefit tech ecosystems.

Question 2

How do you stay informed about tech sector industry trends and advancements?

I listen to people and attend events. I find this is a lot easier than reading information and helps me gain option and sentiments towards tech as opposed to just getting information on the tech. I’m a big fan of getting out of region to understand what’s going on elsewhere nationally and internationally – this also has the benefit of being able to flag-wave for the North East when out and about.

Question 3

What hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

I’m a bit of a car fan, and enjoy attempting to fix them when they go wrong, I build a car when I was at University and it’s still going so I might be doing something right. I enjoy playing sports such as football and tennis but those who’ve seen me play will understand enjoyment is beating skill every time! I’m also a bit of a darts fan but playing is very much still at ‘poor amateur’ level.

Question 4

Three reasons why people and businesses should get involved with Dynamo from your perspective.

  1. If you get involved with Dynamo you can help our tech ecosystem grow – that’s good for everyone, your business, your career and everyone else!
  2. The more people we have involved the louder we can shout – this will help us both promote the region but also get policy changes that will help the ecosystem grow
  3. We’ve got some amazing events, from the Dynamites – one of the biggest tech awards events in the country, to TechNExt – the tech festival that will only grow bigger and bigger.
