Twitter Boss to speak at Dynamo Dinner

ONE of the world’s most influential social media figures will address a key annual dinner for the region’s tech sector.

Twitter Vice President Bruce Daisley will be the guest speaker at this year’s Dynamo members’ dinner, which will be hosted at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art on Thursday, March 14.

Birmingham-born Bruce runs Twitter across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, having joined the social media giant in 2012.

“We’re thrilled Bruce is taking time out of his hectic schedule to address Dynamo members. Twitter and other social media platforms are now the default means of communication for so many of us and we’re delighted that such a leading player in the sector has agreed to be our guest speaker,” said Dynamo Chair Charlie Hoult.

“Bruce has also worked for Google and You Tube and is known as a bit of a maverick – his latest book rails against the culture of working ludicrously long hours. He advocates that Twitter’s 200-strong London team does not work any more than 40 hours a week!

“He’s also a leading voice in the fight to clean up Twitter, combating the hate trolls – under his direction Twitter has suspended ten times more accounts than they did a year ago.

“I’m sure he’ll have plenty to say and unsurprisingly, tickets for the dinner are selling super fast,” added Charlie.

After graduating with an Economics Degree from York University, Bruce started his career at Virgin Radio before joining Emap Advertising, becoming Digital Director. He then joined Google, working at subsidiary You Tube as a Director.

He is a respected commentator on workplace culture, challenging some of the ‘science’ behind contemporary working practices in his new book The Joy of Work: 30 Ways to Fix Your Work Culture and Fall in Love with Your Job Again.  His podcast Eat Sleep Work Repeat regularly sits at the top of Apple’s business podcast charts.

While in the North East, Bruce will also give a guest talk to pupils at the North East Futures UTC, the new school specialising in IT and health sciences which opened in Newcastle last year.

The Dynamo dinner will be held at BALTIC’s River Terrace and is only open to Dynamo members and is aimed at those at Director level. Mincoffs Solicitors are dinner sponsors.

Dynamo is the North East’s network for the tech sector, with more than 150 members including IT firms, major employers, technology hubs, academia, local government and employer support initiatives. Its mission is to grow the region’s IT economy through collaboration, innovation, skills and reputation.
