Secerna Inspires Next Generation of Patent Attorneys

Secerna LLP, a leading intellectual property law firm, hosted its fourth annual taster day, offering a rare opportunity for undergraduate students to experience the dynamic world of patent law. The event aimed to inspire and empower the next generation of talented patent attorneys by offering a firsthand look into the IP industry and the life of a patent attorney within a private practice firm.

Five undergraduates engaged in practical exercises designed to showcase the skills essential for client projects, providing valuable hands-on experience. Additionally, they had the opportunity to interact with and shadow Secerna team members, gaining insights into the day-to-day work of a patent attorney and the path to qualification.

Natural Sciences student at the University of Leeds, Madeleine Jackson, who attended the taster day, commented, “The taster day was an incredible learning experience. Along with other students, I had the opportunity to hear from various Secerna employees who shared their insights on different aspects of a career in Intellectual Property (IP). The presentations were enlightening, providing a deep dive into what Secerna stands for and some of the exciting hot topics currently shaping the industry.”

Aerospace Engineering Student at University of Bristol, Emillie Tyson added: “Thank you very much to yourself and everyone at Secerna yesterday for a thoroughly interesting and enjoyable day…really helped me to better understand the role of a patent attorney, and I am very drawn to Secerna and the welcoming environment you all create.”

Secerna Partner, Jason Boakes said: “We were incredibly impressed by the calibre of students who participated in our taster day. We are dedicated to showcasing the exciting and challenging world of patent law to ambitious science and technology graduates. Events like our taster day allow us to share our passion for IP and inspire the next generation of legal minds. Our goal is to inspire the next generation of legal minds, and it’s clear that we’ve ignited a passion for IP in these bright individuals.”
