Northcoders Members Spotlight

A brief overview of Northcoders
Northcoders are an AIM listed company who are devoted to changing lives through tech with our students learning to code on our award winning coding bootcamps in Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and remotely where you can become a work-ready software developer in just 13 weeks. We also help businesses to future-proof their tech teams with our range of hiring and training solutions.

What are the benefits of basing your business in the North East?
We have just recently opened a hub at TusPark in Newcastle City Centre, this site is a well-regarded centre of innovation and excellence and we are excited to be part of a new and growing community. Newcastle and the wider North East region have growing tech sectors and the demand for digital skills and upskilling is increasing all the time.

What have the past 12 months taught you?
The main challenges we faced over the past 12 months, like many organisations, are those that occurred as a result of the pandemic. Pre-COVID, we worked on an entirely in-person delivery model which left us with a difficult challenge, but we quickly and successfully pivoted to a fully remote delivery model. As the world opened up again, our teaching and support staff worked together to adapt this remote model into a hybrid one, incorporating students based remotely and in our coding hubs.

In July 2021 we entered the AIM segment of the London Stock Exchange. The float will facilitate our growth strategy, particularly enabling us to roll out our model geographically with additional hubs in 2022. As we continue our strategy to expand across our homeland in the North of England, and indeed look at broader opportunities across the UK, we learned that even in a difficult climate the tech industry continues to grow.

We have also redesigned our apprenticeship offerings to better suit our customers.  This has opened up a significant opportunity to grow revenues in an area which is already receiving and is expected to continue to receive substantial government support.

What are your post COVID Business objectives
Northcoders has the ambitious goal of expanding into the Midlands, along with further developing our presence in the North West and Yorkshire. In our next graduation we will have reached over 1000 graduates of our coding bootcamps since our inaugural course in 2015, the aim is to grow this even further by giving individuals no matter what their background the opportunity to learn to code. We want to establish ourselves as industry leaders and the coding bootcamp of choice, this in turn will also establish ourselves as the main hiring and training partner for businesses, thus increasing the amount of opportunities our alumni can have when they graduate with us.

What are your hopes for the future of the North East’s tech region?
The tech industry is constantly growing and evolving and we are excited to see this in the North East, working with our students and hiring partners to change lives through code. We also want to ensure greater access to education and technology training that will directly benefit businesses, individuals and in turn the local economy by nurturing talent in the North East.

Why did you join Dynamo?
