Lenovo joins Dynamo to back ‘the UK’s next wave of tech growth’

We are delighted that Lenovo has joined Dynamo North East, reinforcing its commitment to one of the UK’s most dynamic and ambitious technology ecosystems and highlighting its commitment to play an active role in the region’s transformation.

The company sees embedding itself in the North East as very much a long-term investment in its people, partnerships, and infrastructure that will strengthen the region’s contribution to the UK’s digital future.

Paul Wealls and James Nixon are spearheading Lenovo’s regional engagement, forging close connections across industry, academia and government. Their efforts are backed by Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) UK General Manager Ian Jeffs, ensuring that the company’s commitment aligns with national priorities for digital transformation and innovation.

Ian Jeffs, UK General Manager at Lenovo ISG, said: “The North East is one of the UK’s most exciting technology regions, with the infrastructure, skills and ambition to lead the way in AI and digital transformation.

“By joining Dynamo North East, Lenovo is deepening its commitment to supporting regional growth, connecting businesses, and helping unlock innovation that will benefit the whole of the UK, and beyond.”

Lenovo’s commitment extends beyond infrastructure and partnerships; it’s also about celebrating and inspiring the people and organisations driving change.

Ian added: “That’s why we are proud to support the Remarkable Innovation category at the Dynamites Awards 2025, Dynamo North East’s flagship event recognising the region’s most outstanding achievements in technology. By championing this award, Lenovo is helping to spotlight the creativity, talent and breakthroughs that are shaping the region’s future.”

Lenovo also outlined three core objectives which it aims to help the sector achieve by joining Dynamo.

Driving AI Growth and Commercial Opportunity

The North East already offers a unique foundation for AI and digital growth. Anchored by assets such as the Cobalt Data Centre and the new QTS Blackstone facility, the region combines scalable, secure and sustainable infrastructure with forward-looking policy support. Lenovo sees this as the perfect launchpad for AI, Edge, and hybrid cloud solutions, with the ability to serve both domestic and international markets.

At the same time, Lenovo is focused on empowering the local business community to capitalise on these opportunities. By enabling regional companies to become authorised resellers, it is creating new revenue streams and helping them expand their portfolios. Opportunities span the breadth of Lenovo’s global capabilities, including:

  • Lenovo hardware, from enterprise infrastructure to consumer devices
  • AI Innovators portfolio, connecting cutting-edge AI companies with new partners
  • Motorola mobile solutions to support mobile-first strategies
  • Microsoft licensing, enabling end-to-end digital solutions.

This combination of world-class infrastructure and commercial enablement will provide local businesses with the tools to scale faster, compete more effectively, and deliver greater value to their customers.

Connecting and Scaling Innovation

Lenovo believes in the power of collaboration and connection. By joining Dynamo North East, it will contribute to the region’s “triple helix” model, where industry, academia and government work together to accelerate innovation. This aligns seamlessly with the company’s global vision for inclusive, scalable and sustainable growth.

Lenovo’s global experience and technology portfolio will act as a catalyst within this model, helping to accelerate the pace at which ideas can be turned into market-ready solutions. Lenovo intends to play an active role in knowledge-sharing and skills development, ensuring businesses of all sizes, from start-ups to established enterprises, can benefit from cutting-edge technologies like AI and Edge computing. This includes creating pathways for students and researchers to collaborate with industry, and for local businesses to connect with Lenovo’s worldwide network of partners and innovators.

Crucially, the company sees its role as more than just a technology provider. It is positioning itself as a connector and enabler, helping to scale local innovation, foster new partnerships, and ensure that the North East remains a globally recognised hub of digital excellence.

From Regional Strength to Global Impact

What makes the North East so significant for Lenovo is not just its regional strength, but its global potential. With delivery excellence, leadership in energy innovation, and strong subsea connectivity, the region is uniquely positioned to play a strategic role in future-ready technologies that serve the UK and the world.

As Lenovo deepens its presence in the North East, the message is clear: this is a partnership built for the long term, designed to unlock innovation, foster growth and place the region firmly on the global technology map.
