A North East college has announced a partnership with a proposed £20m retail scheme.
Fintry Estates and development partners Hargreaves recently revealed they were pressing ahead with plans for a 138-job retail park in Gateshead, and have now announced a partnership with Gateshead College.
The partnership will see students offered work and training opportunities in both construction and retail.
This partnership has been welcomed by the town’s MP Ian Mearns, who said the retail park plan is a “major boost for” Gateshead.
Ian commented: “This landmark partnership between Gateshead College, Hargreaves and Fintry Estates offers a unique opportunity for our young people to develop their skills and talents in retail and construction, on the doorstep of the college.
“The development of Gateshead Quays and the Baltic Quarter will be central to our regeneration and growth as a region, with a pipeline of construction jobs and opportunities for local people over the next decade.
“It is vital that our young people are equipped with authentic work experience and the qualifications they need, and this partnership will help us build a better future.
“If the planning application is approved by Gateshead Council, this skills and employment partnership will enable so many young people to gain valuable experience in the workplace, while contributing towards the development of Gateshead.”
