Empowering Girls in Tech – Calling SMEs to Volunteer with Cyber Girls First

“When girls see what is possible in tech, they start to believe they can shape the future – not just be part of it.”  Yasmin Ameli-Zamani, Technical Architect at Accenture and Lead Organiser for Cyber Girls First.

A Personal Message from Yasmin

As a Technical Architect at Accenture, I have had the privilege of seeing first-hand how transformative technology can be, not only for businesses but for individuals as well. But it is no secret that the tech sector still has a long way to go in terms of diversity. That is why I am proud to be part of Cyber Girls First, a series of events designed to encourage girls aged twelve to fourteen in the North East of England to explore careers in technology.

Together with my employer, Accenture, we aim to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and empower young girls to see that they too can shape the future of technology.

We have already seen the impact of this initiative, with more than one hundred and fifty schoolgirls taking part in past events. Now, we are looking to reach even more.

Why This Initiative Matters

Technology is part of everything we do. But without a range of voices in the room, it will not reflect the world it serves. Many girls, especially those from underrepresented communities, lack role models in this field. By reaching them early, we can show them that they belong in technology.

This work is about more than access. It is about fairness, innovation, and representation. The future of technology depends on who builds it. And we must ensure that opportunity is open to everyone.

Understanding the Gap in Technology Careers

Fewer than thirty percent of people working in technology roles in the United Kingdom are women. That statistic reflects a missed opportunity. Through Cyber Girls First, we do more than introduce digital skills. We build confidence and show girls that they can belong in these spaces.

We focus on schools in areas where opportunity is limited. Many of the girls who attend our events have never met a woman working in technology. This experience is often their first chance to see what is possible.

Proven Impact and a Growing Movement

Cyber Girls First has already introduced over one hundred and fifty girls to hands-on workshops, career talks, and inspiring conversations with professionals. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Many of these girls leave the event with new goals and a clearer idea of how they might get there.

We are just getting started. This year, we are aiming higher and inviting more young minds to imagine a future in technology.

How Your Business Can Help

We are inviting small and medium businesses across the North East of England to join us. Your team can make a real difference by delivering a workshop, sharing industry experience, or simply showing up as a role model.
